week one-reading record
This week i read 183 pages in Demon Thief, this book is the second book in the demonata series. Its about a little boy Kernal who sees these strange lights, he has seen them this whole life, but nobody believes him. He plays with them a lots putting the colorful shapes together, one night he was doing that and they all slot together and form a window. A demon comes out of it, and then retreats, Kernal follows. He returns not remembering anything, his parent freak and flee the city for reasons unknown, Kernal also has a little brother named Art. They move to a little town and settle. Another window open a demon jumps out grabs Art and goes back into the window, Kernal follows findign himself in a different universe, he meets the other humans that fight of the demons and try to keep them out of the human world. He tries to find Art, and catch the demon thief, throughout the whole book. At the end he learns he is the demon thief and Art was never his brother but a demon in human disguise. Its a horribly grotesque book, but very intreging.
The Puritans
TASK ONE
The Puritans beleived that everyone was born a sinner, they believed that only a few people would go to heaven, and everyone else would go to hell. They believed that Adam and Eve were sinners and therefore all humans are because we are decents of them. They also thought that jesus did not die for everyone, but that he only died for some. The Saints were the people that were "elected by god," and can speak for god, they were not sinners and could give people the grace of god.
TASK TWO
"Everybody is a sinner." that is what the Puritans believed, they also believed that you could in no way get the grace of god. The only ones who had the grace were the saints, like John Edwards. Saints were people who could interpret the word of god, so the others will know what he was saying and what he thought of them. John Edwards wrote a very famous sermon called Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, when he would speak this sermon, it was said that people would faint from fright.
In the sermon it says that god does not have to keep any man from eternal hell, and that he is holding man in his hand above the fiery pits of hell, he said that the humans deserve to go straight to hell. I think that this is part in the sermon is ridiculous, but then again I think it all is, but to say that god wants everyone in hell and he is just dangling you above the pits of hell is horrible, imagine all the children scared to death just because some crazy nut made all this up.
To say to everybody that, "the devil is waiting for them," and that they have no way out of it, just because of Adam and Eve, which we don't even know is true in the first place because there is no direct evidence of that either. So to lie to all these frightened people and make them hate life and refuse to enjoy what they have, it the most ghastly thing that the saints could do. How could someone come up with this stuff, and believe that they are getting saved but everyone else is doomed. What i want to know is what was running through saints heads i mean, " there is nothing but air between them and hell," that is utterly ridiculous, i think that the saints needed to be in a metal institution
They said that everyone would get the wrath of god, which I'm guessing is just spending eternity in hell with the devil. That the black clouds of gods wrath is over there heads and is ready to punish. But punish for what? For living? For being descents of Adam and Eve? These people must have been very gullible to believe this sort of talk, but that does still not make it right to scare the life out of all these good normal people just trying to survive
The writing from the journey on the mayflower is a very hard read, because apparently they believed that if you enjoyed the writing then you were sinning because you were having fun, so all there writing is very monotone and drawn out. But what i got from it is that they landed on the ship and go out onto the land, and they saw some Indians, which ran, and they tried to follow them to seek where they were living, they didn't find them at first. But then they stumbled upon their corn and took some. Which is very ungrateful and mean.
The Indians came and stole some of their tools and whatnot, but then one Indian that could speak English came to them and made a treaty which said, that nobody should hurt the other and that if they did there would be consequence, and to not take anything of theirs, also that there would be peace between them. It think the Indians were fair to these new people that just showed up on there land, and we turned around and were traitors to these kind and understanding people, but that happened later, at first it was fair and they did help each other.
But that is a sum up of what I read on the sermon and the other texts, I think that these people were tricked by the saints and were very gullible, but it is not there fault because they did not think someone would lie about such things. But i feel very sorry for those who did and had a miserable life, awaiting hell.
TASK THREE
1."through Adam and Eve's fall, every person is born sinful"
"They all deserve to the cast to hell, so that divine justice stands in the way, it makes no objection against gods using his powers to destroy them."
" that no man may be cast aside, for all are sinners, those who speak gods grace have the exception."
2. " God saves those he wishes"
"those saved from the gods wrath, chosen in few, interpret the word of god"
"saved will be the saints, for they are the only forgiven."
